I started training in October 2022 for my first half marathon which would have been on the 2nd of April in London. While training I started developing a constant pain on the left hip since the first km of every run. Looking at reviews i decided to book an appointment with Emma Benton at the IAC and she immediately found that my problem was caused by a sort of tendinopathy starting from the hip. She gave me exercises to do in gym and a plan for the training. Within few weeks the hip improved but I developed a slightly different pain, being more on the glute than the hip. Emma, with the description given by me, asked me to perform a simple exercise and immediately found out that I developed a sciatica pain as the glute pressed on the nerve. New set of exercises for the hip, the glute and new plan for the running which she was reviewing every couple of weeks. I went from not being able to run a single km without feeling pain to run that half marathon in less than 2 hours without feeling a single discomfort. Emma was brilliant, knowledgeable, prepared and a good listener, being able to change plan and to understand what my issues were. If I finished that half marathon was just thanks to her. Five star is the minimum that I an give.

Excellent advice and treatment from Fiona. The range of exercises given to me helped speed up my recovery from a shoulder injury. A friendly and welcoming atmosphere as well.

Over years I have consulted various people about running-related injuries and I have to say that I have not felt that any of them fundamentally made any difference. Jessica Barnes (from Injury Active) is the one exception to this: I really do feel that I have benefitted directly from her careful diagnosis of the problem and her staged and realistic approach to rehabilitation. At the start I feared that old age had caught up with me and my running days were finally over, but now I feel cautiously optimistic that I can manage a few more years yet it is very important to me to be able to keep running. So thank Jess for your help here it is much appreciated.
