Basic site, with a port aloo and tap. The owners let my 16 year old stay with two friends, a good place to start for basic camping.

A refreshing change to over-manicured campsites with gravel pitches and grass mown to within a millimetre of its life. Kezs Campsite is essentially a field you can camp in, with cows and sheep just the other side of the dry stone wall. Nice and handy for the M6, so only just an hour away from Manchester. There are two festival-type toilets at the far end, a water tap on the right just as you go in, and a warm welcome from Kez when you arrive. Minimal but sensible rules. Quiet time is between 1030 and 0730, dogs must be kept on a lead on site, and fires and barbecues allowed provided theyre kept off the ground. The sunsets were lovely, and what we liked most of all was the amount of space - its a big field and we were a long way from anybody. And the fact that the grass is a natural length for a field, rather than a manicured lawn. No showers - which to be honest we could have done with on one of the hottest days of the year - but we knew that when we booked. If youve got a camping shower, bring it! But there is a village shop 20 minutes walk away, and a lovely farm shop and cafe six minutes drive away. And theres a Booths and an Aldi in Carnforth. We went for a lovely walk up on Farleton Knott. Great views up there. Hutton Roof Crags is also an option. Theres a bit of roadside parking up that way if you want to cut a mile each way off you walk. I did read somewhere that theres the possibility of playing tennis, but we didnt look into it. Maybe next time. The only think we wondered about is why they charge extra campervans compared to camping in a tent - you dont get anything extra, and our van takes up less space in the field than a car parked next to a tent. But well be back.
