A great historic London pub right between Charterhouse and Smithfield. Great beer and excellent food available. Enjoyed a good lunch after a tour of Charterhouse. Will be back

A beautiful small pub with one of the only pewter bars left in London. Staff friendly & helpful. Excellent food.

Four of us visited on a busy Sunday evening in April 2023. The faade and interior of the pub is a wonder example of early 20th century design. The dining area tucked away at the rear has a very cosy ambiance. The real stars being the three panelled booths, which are a real delight. You feel cocooned in the very best way. The beer was excellent, with a reasonable choice of hand pumped ales. The food wasnt cheap, but was very good. For once the roast beef, I had, wasnt over cooked. The only negative was that one of our guests, a vegetarian, had no mains options; but then it had apparently been a very busy day and some things had simply run out. Special mention should go to our waiter, whos enthusiasm, energy and determination that we had a good time, was exemplary.
