On two occasions now I have had to leave the store or because of the inability of "the system" to accept payment using gift vouchers purchased from that very business without having the penalty of having a forfeit any unspent amount from a voucher.
For example a 3 purchase tendered a 5 voucher told we can't give you change.
Second example 2. 20 purchase tendered a 3 credit note, previously issued in the same branch, and told, No Change.
I asked if I could have a bar of chocolate to make up the Difference and was told no the system would not allow that.
I feel dreadfully sorry for the poor staff who are embarrassed that they've got to enforce this sort of system.
