The cottage surpassed all expectations for my friend's hen party. The host was incredibly helpful, making our stay unforgettable. Highly recommended for a tight-knit group. It had everything we needed, with comfortable beds, a beautiful room, and lovely touches throughout. The highlight was the amazing spa experience. Can't wait to plan a reunion at Sawcliffe! Thank you for an incredible weekend.

I really don't know where to start, never have I felt so bad or dirty about myself. Myself and my husband booked to stay at Plum Cottage, the owners also own "Hare Cottage" and Sawcliffe Manor hotel all in Scunthorpe. Like other reviewers the heating simply wouldn't work, the cottage wasn't rural, it does overlook the steelworks, rags were porvided as towels, the log fire didn't work and the sofas are very uncomfortable, the neighbour must have been having a party because it was very noisy but these things do happen and we considered it lesson learned, we just won't stay there again. Unfortunately though we paid a 150 security deposit and when we asked for this to be returned to us ( we left the cottage in an immaculate condition) our request was refused due to "excessive cleaning requirements" because we failed to mention on booking that we were a COUPLE! One of the owners "Em" has said all the bedding now needs to be replaced and a thorough deep clean carried out before they can allow anybody else to stay there, I can't put into words the disbelief and hurt I feel about this situation, its the year 2023 and I truly thought we were past all this. I am 150 out of pocket now because I feel too ashamed to show the messages to my bank. I write this review not as a victim but a warning to other members of our PROUD LGBTQ community to not stay here with such intolerant bigoted owners. UPDATE: A "lady" named EMILY has just called me threatening all kinds calling me a host of awful names and told me they have my address and to expect a visit if I don't remove my HONEST review! Absolutely disgusting owners stay well clear! I have messages from them confirming that their reply to my review below is nothing short of LIES! They are absolutely not LGBTQ friendly, they are intolerant and bigoted living in the dark ages and have taken my 150 security deposit because after our visit a thorough deep clean was needed , sheets had to be replaced and that I should have told them we were a couple prior to booking

Please DO NOT stay here! It's a scam! Its a new business on booking dot com , I have used booking dot com for accommodation for years, i'm genius level 3 with hundreds of stays and now receive 30% discount on stays, I have never had any issue with any booking until this place! I don't even know where to start ! The address they list on booking dot com IS NOT the property address, once you have booked and paid ( non refundable) they send you small print with a different address, this "cottage" a semi detached house with a neighbour with 2 vans and cars making parking difficult at best overlooks scunthorpe steal works and an industrial park, right on a main road with cars constantly flying past at dangerous speeds so if you have toddlers PLEASE do not stay here thinking it is a country cottage because it absolutely is not! the shower was broken, dirty wellies on the porch to greet us , the log fire doesn't work. The advert claimed the property came with a private spa, until you book and pay! once you've paid they send you a long email and confirm that if you want to use the "private spa" its an extra 250 minimum. The heating doesn't work, as per other reviews, I have a 2 month old baby it was utterly impossible to heat the semi detached house with neighbours up. They don't provide towels - they provide rags in the bathroom to dry yourself with. Cleaning products - The only options available were home made , they smelt nice in all fairness but I question whether they have gone through proper safety tests because I used the hair shampoo whilst holding the shower head because it wouldn't attach to the pole and my eyes are still burning now! They demand a 150 deposit ( AFTER YOU HAVE BOOKED AND PAID) if you don't pay the deposit then you cant get the keys . I was visiting my grandma , since i was travelling 4 hours to get to her I just needed a place to stay for the evening instead of travelling home the same day. I paid the deposit, went to my grandmas , dropped my bags back at the property and got changed at 5pm then went back to my grandmas house until 10pm . I came back at 10pm and fell to sleep on the sofa because the heating wouldn't work , I managed to burn the logs on the log fire so it was the only room where we were not freezing cold . Unfortunately my clothes must have had dog hair on them , i'd spent the day at my grandmas house playing with the dogs, some of their hair no doubt ended up on the sofa and floor , so they have taken 30 from my security deposit for having pets at the property, and a further 35 to hoover the pet hair. Now there is a policy which says you must clean the property yourself prior to checkout, I read the policy and I cleaned the kitchen, washed the pots, I even made the beds prior to leaving. I absolutely would have hoovered too but the property doesn't provide a hoover. Also, their pet policy isn't 30.00 to have pets, its 65.00 if your pet has hair, 30 to bring your pet with hair and 35.00 to hoover any hair after you leave, I dint bring a pet so I assume the 35.00 hoovering fee is just the fee to hoover anything? I tried to deal with the owners directly but got nowhere, I eventually said I was going to leave my feedback online, at which point they told me they had copies of my passport and were going to call the police if I left a negative review for them and give the police my passport! This worried and scared me but I am posting this review anyway to warn others which I now consider a civic duty. FYI - when booking you are APPARENTLY directed to a third party company to provide ID information, this would appear not to be the case because the owners have messaged me telling me they have a copy of my passport and will use it if I leave a negative review. This is a very new company to booking dot com and I expect they will be removed from the platform rather quickly based on my experience and others. Avoid this place. Update : this company is now under review from the specialist department at booking dot com

We booked Plum Cottage and Hare Cottage for 2 nights in late October as we had to attend a funeral (as the owners were aware). Ill try to keep this short: - payment in full had been made, but as we prepared to make the 250 mile journey north we realised we had been given no details of the address or how to check-in/get into the cottages, and we had friends coming in from the US and Sweden therefor a lot of logistics to tackle. Apprehension started to rise among our guests (one of whom is in his mid 70s). Owners website states they do not respond to email between Tuesday and Thursday. It was Wednesday and we were due to arrive on Thursday. I investigated other hotel options, which looked impossible, but suddenly on Thursday morning a message arrived explaining location and check-in. The worries subsided. - We arrived in daylight and then spent half an hour trying to work out where the cottages actually are: the directions are minimal and confusing. Luckily a neighbour saw us and gave us a hand. This would have been utterly impossible in darkness. Sadly the two cottages - we had imagined they would be side by side - were on opposite sides of a farm. Walking from one to the other was not to be attempted as the farm and some fields lay in between, and definitely not via the unlit and busy main road which had no pavement. Still, we were in. - Both cottages were freezing. The notes provided by the owners said that the temperature was controlled by using the radiators so we turned those up. Hare Cottage started to warm up. Zero response in Plum Cottage. The sun set; the temperature dropped further. I emailed and texted. A response arrived saying that the radiators were on a timer (we had no access to the boiler to check as this is situated in a padlocked room). Wed have to wait. We were due at a pre-funeral dinner in town, so left the cottages and spent the evening worrying about returning to an ice box - which we did. I messaged again, and an email arrived suggesting we access the room in which the boiler was to be found; the code was supplied; it had 3 digits; but the padlock had 4. An inspired guess by one of us and we were in. The boiler display stated that it had a fault but after half an hour or so of trial and error we detected a little heat, so our 75 year old guest went to bed fully clothed and hoped for better in the morning. (No heating issues after that, apart from our being reprimanded for not turning it off on departure - yes the same heating which was not working on arrival!) - There was no Wi-Fi in either cottage because the owners had turned off the routers and not told us that we should be turning them on - we raised this when we left and were blamed for not reporting it sooner (we had bigger fish to fry in dealing with the funeral arrangements and ensuring our guests were warm enough) - Towels - small, thin, and not enough of them - Hot water - inadequate if more than two guests want a bath/shower. - Glasses - plenty of these but mainly grimy and had to be rewashed before use. - to cap it all, the owners levied a late check-out charge because we checked out of one of the cottages 30 minutes late. They refused to waive this even when I pointed out that the reason we were a little late was because my wife had been in town tending to her bereaved mother. Overall then, we found these cottages well below expectations and overpriced, and our treatment unsympathetic. PS Biscuits - the owners notes encouraged us to enjoy them - there werent any!
