This is a place that is quite evocative for me. I have visited many times and am always impressed by how well the environment is looked after. Row after row of gravestones, as a poignant reminder of War. Always makes me think.

We visited Cannock Chase commonwealth and German War graves cemetery, as we are both interested in military history. The site as you might expect is very well kept and incredibly well laid out. Sadly, the internal buildings were being renovated so there were no toilet facilities. That said we had a very interesting visit. The German cemetery is split mainly into WW1 and WW2 combatants graves. There is a separate memorial and four mass graves for the victims of the four separate Zeppelins that were shot down, during WW1 over the UK. The WW2 graves contain soldiers and airmen ranging from a Field Marshall, well known Luftwaffe pilots to notorious characters. The Commonwealth War graves again consist of German graves, New Zealand, some RAF and a Polish grave all neatly and respectfully presented. One very sobering aspect is many survived the war only to succumb to the global Spanish flu epidemic that arrived just after. So interesting visit if you are interested, and still worth viewing if only for its poignant respect in commemorating the fallen of the two Great Wars.
