As a start up business I employed the services of Farquhar Partnership to take care of the accounts as a limited business. The business itself fell apart after the industry in which I worked took a significant nose dive for around 6 months, my health then began to deteriorate and things got much worse and I needed to take time out. Keeping up with all the necessary paperwork was proving impossible, having personally met and known one of the partners I had no idea what was to follow, it was a big shock. Having kept in touch and having to open up with the accountant about how dire the situation was I promised to pay the outstanding balance of around 800 on completion of house sale which was close to completion and we needed to sell house to survive, this was ignored. Farquhar Partnership then decided without prior warning to employ the services of a bailiff to use several unsavoury bullying tactics, I had explained to both the accountancy firm and the bailiff that there were no goods at the property associated to the business. The business model was asset light as we hired everything we needed to conduct the business, something the accountant was made full aware of right from the first meeting. But it didnt end there, I received a frantic call from my now ex- partner that someone was at the front door and threatening to break down the door unless she opened it. I managed to get to the property within 15 minutes and confront the bailiff full of threats and scare tactic, to advise him in no uncertain terms that he was not going to be allowed on to the property, and that he had no legal right to personal possessions. My ex- partner at the time was signed off with anxiety and in an unstable state of mind, she was absolutely terrified, her mother was also in the house at the time having recently been released from hospital care, it was an unforgettable and incredibly stressful thing to experience. Such is my moral stance on business I managed to get a PERSONAL short term, high interest loan to pay an amount to the bailiff that was acceptable, by this time fees had risen from 800 to 2300. If you are a new business, make sure that your crystal ball works well and you can see a huge downturn in business coming (despite having an excellent reputation in the industry), NEVER EVER use your home address, biggest mistake I ever made, and PLEASE, PLEASE make sure you ask Farquhar Partnership in advance of their policy of unpaid fees AND GET IT IN WRITING, something I wish I had done in advance because I would not wish this treatment on any credible business.
