My wife and I moved into a new flat nearly three years ago. Part of the appeal was the building being managed so, for a monthly service charge, we wouldnt have to worry about organising maintenance etc. Deacon Crickmay were, and remain, the company responsible for the management of the building. Shortly after moving in I discovered a leak in the eaves area coming from the roof. I informed Deacons on numerous occasions, usually receiving no reply whatsoever. They eventually arranged for someone to come and take a look. This was 7 months and many emails after I first contacted them. Fast forward 2 years and we just sold our flat. Whilst packing our belongings and emptying the eaves storage I realised that the leak had never been fixed. Deacons had, after much pressure, sent someone to take a look but had never followed the problem up.27 months after I first highlighted it to them. Absolutely shocking!! On another occasion we needed an LPE1 for our solicitors during the flat sale. I contacted Deacons and was told this would be 150 + VAT. I contacted them again to ask them to proceed. No reply. Another email. No reply. Another email and third time lucky we get a reply only to inform us that the charge is 300 + VAT, a 100% increase in 14 days. We pointed out that wed been quoted 150 + VAT and they backtracked but only after they had revealed their dishonesty and done nothing for a full 2 weeks creating delays for the entire chain involved in our flat sale. My experience with Deacon Crickmay is that they are lazy, unresponsive and dishonest. They are a major reason why we decided to find somewhere else to live!!
