Looks for loopholes to avoid paying. My company lost over 40,000 on a claim denied, which was later investigated by the underwriter . Slow response. Should have paid more

I've only had two claims in over 30 years and 50,000 miles of sailing. The first was when someone ran into me while I was in my marina berth. At the time I was insured with a well-known company who argued over every penny (even though they were not the ones paying!). On that occasion, the other boat was insured with N&G, and they paid up promptly and in full with no argument. So I moved to N&G (whose premium was just over half what I had been paying previously!). Then, last year I hit an unmarked rock (at a depth of about 18" in the centre of the marked channel) in the Canal du Midi. N&G were brilliant, and they even waived the policy excess in recognition of how I had really gone out of ,my way to keep the amount of the claim to a minimum. They have always been spot on with their service, and I recommend them without reservation.
