When I moved back home after three years abroad, I was certain that I wanted a doula for my journey into motherhood but not quite sure of where to go. After some looking around with no luck, I came across one of Katie's flyers at a midwives appointment (and I'm SO glad that I did). Katie was an amazing support system and despite the birth of my daughter not going accordingly, she was catalyst in helping create an amazing experience - I will treasure her forever.

We hired Katie as a mentored Doula to support us through the birth of our youngest son. Katie really helped me to debrief on my first birth experience, and we talked a lot about my hopes for my second birth experience. I had a reiki treatment which was wonderfully relaxing. The birth didn't go as we had hoped, but this actually meant that we were especially grateful to have Katie to support us with her calm manner and gentle care. Despite my second birth being technically far more difficult than my first, the experience felt positive and empowering, and I think that was down to Katie's presence.

Katie was our doula for the birth of our first baby boy, Harry! Due to the pandemic we decided to have a home birth and meticulously planned every detail. We decided fairly late into my pregnancy to get a doula and we had already done various prenatal courses so we decided to only have one session with Katie before birth. However this was absolutely fantastic for getting to know each other and also talking about our feelings around birth from childhood and other experiences - which was so valuable! Unfortunately, we had to have a pretty swift induction at 38+4 due to Harrys growth tailing off and I was showing various signs of preeclampsia. But guess what? We managed to get Katie into the birth in hospital with my husband Allan! During my labour Katie sent me some reiki energy that I felt and really helped pick me up, after no sleep and my contractions were starting to wear me down after being on the ward without Allan or Katie for so long, it definitely got me through the rest of that afternoon and evening before I was taken down! Allan arrived and Katie followed shortly after and seeing two familiar faces that were there to support me was the best feeling ever. Katie brought a bag full of birthing goodies such as oils, crystals, flannels and was constantly on hand to make things more comfortable for me. Another thing which was fab was having chats with Katie whilst Allan slept. Obviously my birth didnt go to plan, but having Katie present as our doula made the whole experience easier as we both had an extra layer of support in addition to the midwives. I was very adamant about how I wanted certain things during the birth and having another advocate there for both of us was such a relief for me. After the birth, Katie even supported me to extract some colostrum which was incredible as I was so exhausted and overwhelmed I didnt know what I was doing at all as well as supporting both of us through my hospital stay and an emergency with Harry which was very scary but he was absolutely fine. After I was discharged we had a postnatal catch up where Katie brought us the most delicious apple flapjacks, the most yummy chicken casserole with lots of veggies and nutrients and we debriefed the whole birth experience which was so needed for both of us as it was a little traumatic. Katie also brought me a gorgeous Arnica bubble bath which was so needed after birth and Harry a homemade little baby-grow which was such a lovely touch and we felt so looked after. I would highly recommend Katie as a doula, her knowledge, support and resources were absolutely priceless and she is a lovely warm and positive person. Looking back now, Im surprised I put off getting a doula for so long. Cant wait to work with Katie again for baby number 2, but as Harry is only 1 month old today I think its a little soon! Thank you so much for everyone Katie, we are so glad we met you! Xx
