Weve just come back from our second stay at a Classic Cottages Property. The service from them has been excellent. Weve always found them to be well organised, helpful and very flexible. Our first booking had to be moved due to the pandemic but the team were very understanding and took care of everything, moving our booking to a slot later in the year. Both properties have been fantastic. Spotlessly clean upon arrival, with detailed notes about the property and location, theyre incredibly well maintained. Every little thing had been thought of and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Have recommended to a number of friends and family and wouldnt hesitate to do so again.

Never, ever, EVER book with Classic Cottages. The merits of a good company, regardless of what goods or services they are offering are what happens when something goes wrong and needs addressing. Currently, nothing could be worse for all of us than the COVID 19 emergency. Hence, comparing companies when it comes to refunds is an excellent barometer as who you give your travel business in the future when we return to the new normal. Classic Cottages Ltd. wins hands down for procrastination so never book with this company if this type of emergency ever returns because it will be a long time before you get your money back. I booked a cottage for a group gathering on 16th May. As early as the end of March we told them our booking was void because the government told us we could not travel. Three times they hid behind the excuse of waiting for the latest government advice before finally acquiescing a mere five days before the booking was due to take place. This behaviour was shameful not only when compared to their contemporaries like Airbnb who from late March agreed to full refunds (and not credit notes which was the other offer form Classic). So, what to do. Sit and wait and hope for the best. No. Speak to Citizens Advice, and they will inform you that if a company cancels a contract, as Classic Cottages did, they are in breach of the Consumer Rights Act. Any breach needs redress in 14 days, or legal action can be taken to recover the sum owed. Even this threat was met with further procrastination by Classic Cottages, and it was only at the 11th hour, and confirmation that I was serious, that the refund magically appeared in my bank account. Please bear in mind that this is not a small, poor company that you think you might be helping by letting them hold on to your money. In their last accounts, they had almost 3 million in the bank with net assets of 900k. There was absolutely no reason not to offer refunds immediately when we were told, by the government, that we could not travel. There are plenty of other holiday rental companies in the South West. My advice is to choose anyone but Classic, particularly if you want a stress free booking, which I didnt have.
