As a first time visitor .disappointing and what a shame ! My husband and I with our well behaved dog opened the door and asked whether she was allowed which is our usual enquiry when going into any pub regardless of whether or not it is advertised as dog friendly. Before we had chance to finish the young lady behind the bar curtly interrupted you cant bring a dog in here there is a beer garden We had to ask how to get to it as the access door was not obvious and was it ok to take our dog the short distance through the bar. Beer garden to be debated!! A few rusty tables and chairs and a smokers paradise. Ummm not the most inviting. I guess we should be grateful that a dog was at least allowed into this unimpressive area and there was not a complete ban. Although in this case the latter may have been better. We were tempted to leave but as my husband had favourably read a lot about this pub we wanted to experience at first hand. Like I say what a shame, an interesting, old building which we saw the inside of on our visit to the toilets, and a good beer selection, (unable to comment on the cheese board as unfortunately it was not on offer) but sadly our experience was disappointing. On a very quiet, cool, early Tuesday evening in April I wish it had been better and then my review would reflect this. I understand and totally respect the pub owners reasons about dogs not being allowed in any of the inside areas. Please though please train your staff the art of customer service and for one not to be made to feel like a second class citizen when genuinely as visitors we were unfamiliar with the dog policies, We had just come from another pub around the corner where the staffs welcoming attitude was poles apart from the uninviting experience here. Finally I write this as someone who does not easily get riled and totally respect the reasons for decision making around dogs being allowed/not allowed in pubs..completely get it Lovely quirky pub, lovely beer particularly the plum porter, not so lovely service and welcome. Would have loved to stay longer.but sadly didnt feel welcome.

As visitors to Bridlington we called in today for a drink at 4-45 on Good Friday as we liked the look of it and it seemed to have a good selection of beers. The beer was good but no seats downstairs another customer told us to have a look upstairs. We did and it looked pretty interesting. It was empty and we chose a comfy room . On the table was a note saying it was it was reserved from 7-30. We would not be staying later than 5-15 so thought that it would be OK. A short while later a member of staff came through the room and we asked if it was possible to book a table for the next night. We were told quite abruptly that we arent doing bookings on a bank holiday or weekends as there were only 2 staff. ( Strange there was a reservation on table on Good Friday - Bank Holiday). She returned later to tell us sharply if we came in again not sit at a table that had a reservation note on it as they would have wipe the table down before the booking could be fulfilled and that there were only 2 staff. We decided not to return.

Great quirky place with lots of levels and rooms to explore, lovely open fires in upstairs rooms, but downstairs in bar area very cold and a bit drab.
