Such a great day...far more, and far better, than I ever expected. 1st time I had been in a canoe, loved every minute of it. The team were fantastic. Such a great package.

On Saturday 7th May, a group of us did the Bridgnorth to Arley Canoe trip. We stopped at Hampton Loade for lunch and caught the steam train back from Arley. The staff were extremely helpful from the start of booking the trip to when we got off at Arley. They were extremely friendly, Gareth booked the train tickets for us, and advised us on the pub for lunch. (Rail and Steam pub - lovely food) to book. Not only is it reasonably priced, but the stretch of the Severn is beautiful. It was an unforgettable trip and I couldn't recommend this trip enough.

Our party of 4 included a 63 and a 7 year old. We arrived early for the full 14 miles set off at 9:45 and got to the river and rail pub at exactly 12, after a short walk through a beautifully picturesque Hampton Loade. We preordered food as advised by the pub and food came out about 10 minutes after arriving. Food was great, exactly as expected and reasonably priced. We sat outside and enjoyed the covered seating area and took in the surroundings. After our hearty lunches we were back on the river by 1:15 although we sat considerably lower in the water. Then we canoed the rest of the way to Bewdley at a fairly leisurely pace. I say fairly because when we arrived at Arley it was suggested we paddle a bit harder so we didn't miss the train, the next hour was a frantic sweat riddled, heart pounding affair so we arrived in plenty of time. We pulled the canoes onto the bank opposite the rowing club, then hoofed it over the beautiful bridge and arrived at the station a full 20 minutes before the train. The train journey back was sedate and wonderful, a beautiful snapshot in time and a wonderful hour to round off the day. My 7 year old son asked to see the steam engine and the driver gave him a first class tour and was really lovely. It was low 20 degrees after the wettest May on record so the river was running fast and full so we had it easy on the whole. It was a wonderful day and I can't wait to do it again.
