The staff were really helpful as we got lost on the way from our event and they helped us find the way. The check-in was very quick and we were made to feel welcome. There were plenty of lovely towels and toiletries in the room. The bed was very comfy. The room looked like it could benefit from a refresh. The noise from people walking about in the corridors was a little disturbing during the night. The breakfast was a lovely experience and the food was really nice. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again now we know the way.

I was hugely disappointed with my stay at the bears head. To start there is no reception and stood for 15 minutes as the restaurant was busy. On entering the room it smelled musty, the floor boards creaked badly, there was only 2 wall lights on one small wall, the decor was very tired, there was only one bedside lamp, the plug socket in the wall was loose, there was no headboards, a stain on the carpet, the windows where rotten and filthy dirty in the bedroom and bathroom. There was only one light working in the bathroom the chain to lower the blind was thick in rust, the toilet roll holder was so loose the roll would not stay on, no plug for the sink, dirty shower curtain. On turning on the shower there was a leak from the tap, the connection to the bottom of the shower hose also the top of the shower hose, so the water pressure was really bad. The silver drain cover was only placed over the drain so it floated off revealing a very dirty drain. I had to turn off the shower part way through as the shower tray was about to overflow, the rack for putting shower gel etc onto was so loose ot could not be used. I then got a towel to dry myself and it ripped it was so thread bare. The room was not really up to any standard at all, and I thought it very expensive for what it was. I invited friends to dine in the pub, there was 4 different main meals not available on the menu and 2 starters not available, we where not even offered a desert menu. One of the starters was brie bites, there was only 2 of the smallest pieces of brie on the plate as though they had run out but did not want to stay. The breakfast was below average and had obviously been just kept warm not freshly cooked and the staff serving in the morning was obviously not a morning person and not very friendly. In all a very expensive evening and not enjoyable at all. I would like a reply from someone about this please. Lee Noteworthy details: Apparently this hotel is having a refurb this year, but should advertise this before booking as it is clearly not being maintained
