I moved my husband from the brentwood care home in july 2022 due to the poor care he was subjected to. Since being at 7Arches he has thrived I am so very happy to see him smiling, out of bed and being treated with dignity. The staff and management are second to none

My elderly father was admitted to be cared for and fed at this care home, however as he could not eat, the only food offered to him were dry sandwiches and milk shakes. I later realised that my father could eat and enjoyed most meals, but as he lost his teeth his meals needed to be mashed and liquidated. An absolute cruelty and lack of care, which no nurse or Dr suggested feeding my father with soft nourishing meals.

Before I give my reason for only 2 stars I want to say on a positive note, that the home is basic but clean, grounds are big and well maintained, food is good, the long term users seem cared for and happy and they did the odd meal for me which was very kind and i was able to make tea and coffee when I wanted, his clothes were cleaned and ironed daily and they supplied my dad with a fantastic wheelchair and all the staff were super friendly and i believe they did try with prompting but it was just the totally wrong place for his needs.. So for that reason i do not recommend this nursing home for complex end of life care! I chose this it due to locality and that they had a room available at short notice as my dad didn't want to be in the hospital any longer, in hindsight I wish i took him home and cared for him myself as it was supposed to be both dignified and less stress for both of us but this sadly was not the case! I was at the home daily arriving without having to give notice, so i got to see the care provided for my dad. The staff are friendly enough but some are inexperienced and some carers even just lack common sense in obvious matters, bringing hot tea to my father who had kept spilling his drinks due to progressive disease weakening him for example, i was just told that his notes said hes independent, they changed it after i complained! So inaccurate careplans & communication was very much lacking! Some carers were on the ball others not so much, so was hit and miss. My late father spent his final 2 weeks of his life there and I truly regret my decision as it was mediocre care for him in his condition at best, the oncall Dr had to have strong words with the nurses about getting pain medication right, the manager was rarely seen, it was very stressful for both him and myself and whats worse is I didn't get to be there at the end as they failed to contact me in time after i had strongly insisted to let me know of any changes, however a carer failed to report a significant change in his condition!
