What a gem in North Devon! We stayed in the Calving Barn for a short weekend break and well what can I say, everything was just perfect. The accommodation is beautiful with everything thought of including those welcoming little touches - homemade scones and jam on arrival, fresh flowers on the side, local bread, milk etc. The hosts (Andrew and Sarah) were on hand to show us around and provided us with excellent recommendations for places to see and visit and to eat. Musts Saunton Sands (sunset is stunning), Valley of the Rocks and coastline (wow, wow, wow!), Lynton and Lynmouth (must do the railway), Charlie Fridays for breakfast, Tapas in Ilfracombe (see the sleeping elephant across the bay!), wild horses on Exmoor plus if you are lucky you may spot the red deer. So much to see and do. How we never discovered this part of the South West forget going true south as North Devon really does have it all. The scenery and coastline is breath-taking. Although we stayed in the cottage the glamping site and amenities were amazing and you can see why people come back. 10 individual themed bathrooms (you get your own on arrival for the duration of your stay) were so very clever and impressive - not your usual white bathroom - imagine a trumpet for a shower head and drum for a sink (in the music one), old 1940's suitcase for a sink with map wall paper (in the travel one), just wait to see the steam punk one! There is a games room, kitchen facilities (individual standard fridges for each guest) really everything you could need and more than your standard camping site. But then again this is 'glamping'. With rolling fields around you and situated next door to the Wistlandpound reservoir you are never short of options for walks soaking in the stunning area. From the moment you arrive you relax, simply perfect location. Would highly recommend you really wont be disappointed!
