This is my second stay. Its still quirky, we love bringing our horses here. Alan is friendly. I read some reviews and anyone who finds an 80+ year old man aggressive who goes out of his way to help us needs to check their head checked. Alan went to buy us salad as we forgot it. Lovely guy, amazing place to stay, it's not 5* be realistic about what you pay

Would Give this zero stars if I could just be warned this horrible man will definitely be against disabled people using the pool and in our case. Made us make an appointment with him for our disabled daughter to swim in the pool even tho I or my husband who is a swimming pool life guard will be with her whilst in the water and flatly refused us to use a plastic chair in the showers I even offered to buy a pool chair but he refused to allow us this option Nasty man

Another lovely weekend in Alans company is drawing to a close. Sat in front of a roaring fire in the apartment located by the hotels main entrance after enjoying Alans company at the White Hart in Cadnam for a delicious Sunday dinner. As always, our only disappointment is that we have to leave and go back home in the morning. For us, taking a hotel break in the New Forest has simply become the opportunity to visit a good friend and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the beautiful surroundings. If you want pristine rooms with clinical straight lines, 25 TV channels and WiFi you could run the command and Control centre of a small airport from, youre in the wrong place, go to a Travel Lodge. If like us you prefer to share the ambience of an old building whos charm and character are only enhanced by the charm and character of its relaxed and worldly owner living the life he loves with his dogs by his side, then this is the place to be. No airs and graces here, the pretentious and arrogant are most certainly not welcome. Its no surprise that reviews here oscillate wildly between 1s and 5s. The 1s should never have come in the first place, the 5s never want to leave.

This is my second time coming here with my friends with our horses. This time for a hen do with the horses. Just as great as the first time. The hacking (and location) is incredible. Alan is such a lovely man and works so hard to make sure his guests are happy. He even offered to take us out riding with horse and checks on the horses for us. He also offered to pop to the shop for us. The hotel isn't a 5* hotel but we knew that and as long as our horses are happy it didn't matter. It is quirky so make sure you remember that before thinking its a fancy place that you're used to and booking it on a business trip. We will definitely be coming back for a 3rd time.
