It was with a heavy heart but with no other option, that we placed Dad into Crossley House in December 2022. It was the most awful time of my life. However, I can not speak highly enough of the Management and the staff for all the care they provided to Dad, and all the support they gave to me and our family. It became my home away from home. The entertainment provided to the residents was fantastic. Especially at Christmas. Unfortunately we have now lost dad, but the care and respect shown to him and us during his stay will stay with me forever. I actually miss going down to visit.

I am sad to be writing this because we had such high expectations but in reality it was shocking! Dad passed away on the 2nd January and this is the first time I have been able to face this. Before I go on, there were a "few" members of the "care" team who were lovely. Dad was a very proud man and at the "interview" we were asked about what was important to him, his personal care, exercise, pride and gentility. None of this was respected at all....a box ticking exercise and completely farcical, a can't believe I was taken in! I complained about this constantly, my first 1/2 hour visiting my lovely and proud dad was about cleaning him and tidying the room, shaving dad and putting clean clothes on him.....his room, clothes, toilet was filthy. Dad was always very cold and his thermostat didn't work, all it needed was a new battery apparently and this took me 6 weeks to discover, it took me having a proper rant to find out and rectify, I had to really push for this! No wonder infections spread like wild fire.... I know 2 other people who passed away at the same time as dad. Nothing I said was actually acted on, it was just lip service and now all I feel is guilt about leaving him there. My poor and proud father, who within 6 months became chair ridden after being able to walk a mile a day before "admittance"....because he didn't want to leave his room! In fact he did leave his room, he was supposed to have 2 people with him but only had one, he fell backwards and spent 3 hours on the floor before the ambulance came. We were told they couldn't do anything in case they "were sued"! Oh it was just awful, if I had been "management" there after the first complaint I would have been carrying out "spot checks", clearly it's about not being able to get proper staff rather retaining the ones who are just not right! The management is shocking! Please don't let your loved ones go there....

Beware of what you apply for! No job security , its had many managers. (Three whilst I was there ),and two maintenance men. When you follow work policy or quote it. The toys are thrown out of the pram. No back up from them up there! I worked there 2 years until yet another new manager started ,after leaving another care home in Calderdale . She made the papers Yorkshire live ,and Halifax courier and was still set on at crossly house. two weeks later she made sure that I was removed and she gave her partner my job . Never ever ever ever again !!!! A lot of staff related or in a clique. Although there were two lovely carers ,sisters ,who really did care. And were hard workers. If One staff member dislikes you,and the rest followed suite. Having worked there I would never ever have member of my family in there. I had to give one star , the only choice available. I would actually give Minus six stars.

What a wonderful team and place. I cannot recommend Crossley house enough, without exception we found the whole the team to be capable, considerate and professional. They exceeded her and my expectations in their care. Thanks you all x
