The performance was fabulous. The venue facilities should have been excellent. The organization of the venue was dreadful. We arrived in time to have a drink before the show (about 6.40 pm 40 mins before the performance). When the downstairs bar became too crowded; 15mins after our arrival; we tried to go to the second floor bar area, but we were prevented by a cordon across the stairs and an officious member of staff who said we weren't allowed upstairs until 7pm (he wasn't particularly pleasant). Unfortunately we were now stuck in the vestibule area and it was too crowded to get back into the downstairs bar. It became very tightly packed in the entrance and more people were trying to get into the building. I wasn't the only customer who found the corralling and close proximity uncomfortable but when the member of staff was asked why we were being held there he said we had to wait for the staff to be cleared. Which seemed ridiculous as it was now forty five minutes before the performance was to start. When concerns were raised that staff weren't already on duty, the disagreeable member of staff just said we should pay more council tax then the staff could start earlier. The ushers/theatre staff arrived at 7pm in a long line and disappeared up the cordoned off steps and about 5 mins later we were allowed upstairs but not into the theatre we were all packed in the bar area, and since everyone had come up at once the bar was not an inviting proposition. We were again crowded together whilst the staff "cleared" the theatre for another 10 to 15 mins. Making it about 7.15 before we could take a seat. It was pretty farcical and I would recommend not getting to the St. Georges Hall until about 15 mins. before the performance unless you like being crammed in holding areas with no where to sit it was reminiscent of being stuck on a plane waiting to get off for 45 minutes. We are regular theatre goers and I can say I have never been to a venue which has so little customer focus. The performance was fabulous but I will probably try and catch them at a more relaxing venue.
