Akbars put itself on a pedestal decades ago as the 'king of currys' and at one time it was true but unfortunately it isn't the case any more, you can get better from 'local competitors'. Starters, my wife ordered meat samosas which she claimed lacked any flavour and my chicken tikka starter was average, the chicken was overcooked and tough and didn't have enough of that charcoaly flavour. Mains, my wife said her butter chicken tasted odd, referring to the sauce as tasting like peppercorn sauce. My main was the positive of the evening, the chefs special lamb charsi was admittedly delicious and fresh. The giant naan bread was lovely and doughy but we did order a garlic naan and it was definitely plain. Other little issues that you wouldn't have elsewhere crept like not being given knife and forks after our starter and plates etc etc. It was average, if it wasn't for my lamb charsi the review would be much worse.
