Mrs Sally Hunt came into my life when I sought help as I mourned my beloved husbands death. We worked together for 15 months. I met her and soon felt she was a person I could trust. The arrangement included a supervisor for Sally, who occasionally, Sally told me, she would link with. I felt secure about this and felt it was a sensible arrangement (I never met the supervisor). Sally encouraged me to say anything that came to my mind, but she never pushed me. The latter enabled me to relax into our relationship. She created a good balance of seriousness, interspersed with light engagement. I felt her empathy for me and it was reassuring that she recalled what we had talked about previously when I hadnt always recalled it myself. Id been a general nurse, then midwife, then sister in the operating theatre and further trained as a health visitor. Afterwards in our home in Warwickshire that we had moved to with a large field in the countryside, I opened what soon became a happy and successful small nursery school for 15 years, before retiring and moving to a different area, when my husband, a consultant at Birmingham Childrens Hospital, retired. He and two colleagues had done pioneering work there. I mention this to clarify that I understood and have experience with eg. parents who needed sometimes to talk about their anxieties and concerns, eg a mother who had multiple sclerosis or a child who could not separate from its parents. Working as a health visitor for 5 years before we left for the countryside enriched my emotional understanding. We did not have a demoralising naught step, we had a thinking step, with books next to it. I will overall remember Sally as a kind and patient person who accepted my occasional memories of my darling husband as, like as for us all, not perfect. Sally was positive but never to sweep my concerns away, rather to work through them over time. I can certainly recommend Sally as a bereavement counsellor. My gratitude to her is very sincere. Liz G.
