My experience of trying to get help for a young family member with severe depression was appalling. He was sent 'appointment letters' with blank spaces where the times and dates were supposed to be. S2W were unable to understand that people with mental health problems often find phone contact difficult or impossible. He was forced into online 'CBT' initially (no contact with a human at all) and when that unsurprisingly had no effect, by phone. He had a nice but ineffectual person who advised him to do relaxing things, such as have a bath. (Note that I use the word person as many of those supporting patients in S2W and similar services are singularly unqualified in mental health - they aren't psychologists or mental health nurses, or even counsellors.) Eventually, my relative got referred to an actual psychiatrist and got a diagnosis we had known he had for many years.
In summary, Steps2 wellbeing is a service unfit for what it's designed to do and simply frustrates those who need mental health services. I live elsewhere and this is a local problem caused by commissioners who haven't got a clue - perhaps local authority bigwigs need to be given some mental health awareness training or spend some time on psychiatric inpatient wards? The only people who suffer are those desperate for help.
