Rented BK22YYH for 130 Saturday 8am to Monday 8am. Van suffered complex electrical failure 100 miles into our journey when we'd barely started the pickups we'd arranged. Horn on by itself, locks and windows inoperable, then it started, but no dash or wipers. Then it was dead again, then started, then dead. There was ZERO INFORMATION in the van or with the paperwork about what to do in the event of a breakdown. No emergency number on their website. No recorded message or out of hours number when you phone. We really didn't know what to do and it was very worrying. In the end we took it on ourselves to phone Ford assist who sent the AA. He couldn't fix it so it got recovered and we'd wasted a whole weekend. Had to make the whole trip again Monday (they gave us another van thanks) and lose a day of work. We were refunded 80 which I thought was poor. For the lost hire time, inconvenience and the fuel we'd put in the van which then died it should be double that. I prefer to use local family businesses than national chains with call centres but this has put me off when it comes to van hire. I pushed for more compensation but the proprietor wasn't much help. Top tip for customers - if they give you BK22YYH refuse it and get another van. From how loose things were around the battery and earth when the AA man checked them I'm 100% sure someone else had been in there not long ago, and likely this wasn't the first time this van had ruined someone's day. Top tip for Boston Van Hire - put some breakdown/emergency contact details on a sticker in the van, on the key fob, the website, the contract paperwork, somewhere, anywhere.
