Having enquired about a shotgun for sale at 2,200 I was informed that it was in excellent condition and had not done a great deal for its age. I was also told that the price was solid due to its condition.
I bought the gun in good faith and subsequently having shot approximately 150 cartridges, discovered it was loose. This was confirmed by 3 independent gunsmiths in my area. I contacted Mr Spear who assured me that if it was loose he would repair it. Two weeks later Mr Spear then informed me that his two time served gunsmiths had examined the gun and confirmed that it was not loose. I asked for written confirmation from the gunsmiths. The reports never arrived although a report from Helston Forensics did. The report confirmed that it was loose and that the forend had been tightened on the knuckle by peening the rear end of the forend loop.
I attempted to mitigate the issue by accepting another gun and a small cash difference. However, Mr Spear informed me he did not want to deal with me as I would probably take issue with any replacement and terminated our conversation.
Notwithstanding the above, and despite his assurances, my gun was returned to me without being repaired.
Needless to say I will not be dealing with Celtic Guns again and I urge anyone considering buying from them to consider my experience before approaching them.
