Darren Rudge: Landscape and Garden Design

Darren , together with his team of landscapers, was a delight to work with throughout the whole process from design to completion. The project was a complete reconstruction of a garden area of 400 sq m. During the design stage he demonstrated great technical skills and was very receptive to incorporating our specific wishes without compromising his overall vision. He has a calm and warm personality which made this process much easier than we expected. During the installation phase we were happy to engage with Simon and his team on a daily basis with Darren taking an overseeing role. This worked really well as the team were very professional and personable and performed their tasks to a very high standard. The planting scheme was of great importance to us and Darrens expertise in this area was vital to the overall success of the project. He planned sourced and managed this phase with great attention to detail and the final result was simply stunning. During the final phases Darren was able to respond to the inevitable need for adjustments in a creative and innovative way, resulting in a final outcome which is beyond our expectations. Darren and his team were professional, friendly, and extremely hardworking. Darren designed our dream courtyard and the result has exceeded our expectations. All of our friends and family have been blown away and we have enjoyed alfresco dining! A huge thank you for adapting each time we changed our minds! I got in touch with Darren in April 2020 looking for a garden designer to help us create a special space for us in our back garden in Solihull. From the outset, Darren carefully guided us through the process and really focussed on our requirements and how we wanted to use the space. Both his passion for his work and knowledge were the main reasons why I chose him. One of our main concerns was flooding due to a clay soil, a high water table and a covered brook at the back of our garden. Darren's design incorporated not only water loving plants and large borders but also soak aways and drainage to help minimise ground water. Darren's vision really hit the spot for us made more special by his hand drawn designs and attention to detail. After we had agreed the design, then came the planting scheme. Darren asked us to send him photos of plants we liked and he then used these to create a planting scheme that would suit our garden. He then took time to step us through his design and then also the week by week process of bringing it to life from the initial week's of removing the old lawn, patio and 50 tons of soil, through to the hard landscaping (adding a raised patio, raised beds and bringing in 90 tons of topsoil!) and then ultimately the laying of the new lawn and planting itself. The landscapers that Darren uses were amazing. Quality was exceptional and they kept everything clean and tidy at the end of the day. They hit some issues along the way due to the higher than expected water levels. Rather than just follow the plan to spec they were quick to change the design to add additional soak aways too ensure the final garden met my requirements. They worked closely with Darren throughout the process ensuring the build adapted to whatever they came across and ensuring it remained on time and on budget. Brilliant team of skilled people who i got to know well over the 6/7 weeks they were here. Our garden was finished in early May and has transformed they way we use the space. We were careful to not step on the new lawn for 3 weeks (clear instructions from Darren!) and now are able to use the new patio and enjoy watching the plants really start to fill out. Darren has been on site since the completion, checking that things are healthy and coming along and offering advice on maintenance and watering. He has been a huge help and is always on stand-by if i have a question about the garden or indeed about anything garden related. I don't often write reviews and have high standards myself but Darren and team really deserve the 5 star rating. I set about on this journey very nervous but was fortunate to find myself in the hands of someone who not only knows their stuff but is genuinely interested in his clients and ensuring they not only have a garden they wanted but also feel part of a community. I will undoubtedly keep in touch with Darren over the coming months and years so he can see how his garden matures and no doubt ask him for advice from time to time. Thank you Darren and team.
