The earliest parts of the current building are 13th century, though much of it is later. The site though, raised up and on a hill overlooking the countryside and next to a manor house, suggest the church may well be on the site of an earlier place of worship. There is a pre-Reformation scratch dial by a blocked window on the south wall.
