Visited a relative today and found a beautiful tribute to fallen soldiers outside. There were some visiting soldiers having lunch with the residents, some of whom were old soldiers who were thoroughly enjoying the chat. I found my mum listening to a singer (who was great) staff were joining in. great atmosphere today, thank you for making it a special day

Went to visit a old friend, to find blaring pop music, we were finding it hard to speak as the music was far to loud also not the kind of music for the elderly I think it was more drown out the people calling for help. On my second visit you could hear staff shouting at someone who they were helping the member of staff clearly did not have any compassion for the person she was helping

My uncle was admitted onto the Holly Unit (nursing unit) in July as a palliative patient. Sadly he passed away early September. Although he spent all of his time in his bedroom and was reluctant to use his nurse call button (as he only did once and it took a member of staff over 15 minutes to answer), a couple of members staff spent quality time with him but most of the time he was left alone. On the morning of his death, the nurse on charge was so uncaring and cold (entered the room and just said 'I'll ring the doc and get him certified, do you want to spend a couple of minutes with him'?.. This particular nurse brought her dog in to work with her and seemed to care more about the dog than she did about the people she was supposed to be caring for! Would I recommend this unit to anyone needing 24 hour care? Not a chance! Most staff (not including 1 nurse named Joanne, hca Julie and hostess Elaine) are miserable looking and not approachable. To work in care you need to have a caring nature and an excellent sense of humour.
