Bishop Auckland Post Office

Haven't managed to use this post office yet because despite the open hours signs clearly visible it's yet again closed during working hours... This seems to be a common problem experienced by the people of Bishop Auckland... Also Google on this occasion at least, had NOT been updated to reflect it's closed status.

I was really pleased to hear this had opened back up again as I'm a small business and send lots of parcels and this is my closest store however, it's completely unreliable. The opening hours say 10am - 4pm. I popped by on my way to baby group at 12.30 and it was closed. I popped by on the way back from the group at 2.45...still closed. This is totally unrelated to the Post Office strikes taking place as I walked all the way up to the other branch on Cockton Hill and they're open! It's just a waste of time

Ho hum! Another failed attempt to use the passport renewal digital check and send service thats advertised, on the official post office website, as being available at this branch. (I wasted my time queueing up for this seemingly non-existent service at the main Darlington branch last week). This time, the excuse was that we dont take your photo here and weve told the post office to correct their website advertising. Thats all well & good but I cant claim back the wasted time spent travelling to to the branch and then standing in the 15 minute queue to be told this once Id finally reached the counter! Ive given 2 stars because, at least the woman at the counter was apologetic & sympathetic (unlike the rude man at Darlington last week!). In general, my advice to anyone wanting to use any post office branch, anywhere in the UK, who advertise that they provide this service is to take that claim with a pinch of salt. Renew your passport a different way unless you enjoy spending your time in soul-destroying lengthy queues, only to discover it was a complete waste of your time.
