Excellent service by all staff: initial tester, recently trained optician (sorry I cant remember their names), Tasha, Nathan and (I think) Matt. Previously had a bad experience getting varifocals here a few years ago with a different person doing the measuring up. Much better experience this time, with optician recommending some moisturising drops, and Tasha and Nathan patiently taking time and care to get lenses made to suit very specific practical need. Thank you.

Horrific experience! I've worn glasses for 35yrs and have purchased 7 pairs glasses from Specsavers in the last 10 years. I've always been pleased with the quality and the service in branches in Southampton, Portsmouth, Crewe, and Stratford-upon-Avon. The branch in Bishop Auckland was a disgrace compared to those. First of all, let me say that I do like the quality of the lenses used there...but that's besides the point if they can't get the prescription right! I appreciate that mistakes happen, but during my test, I kept asking 'but why aren't you doing this part of the test' (pressure test, and reading the paragraph) and they said 'oh, you're not old enough to need that). Funny, I was 'old enough to need it 10 years ago. I was surprised with the prescription, as they claimed it hadn't changed much in 4 years, but my astigmatism was much worse. After getting my glasses, I knew something was wrong, so I went to a competing opticians for another test. Lo and behold, they gave me a different prescription. So, off I trailed back to Specsavers, where a very unfriendly manager 'dealt with me'. There was no apology whatsoever for the inconvenience, and she couldn't crack a smile to save her life. Talk about poor customer service. The kicker was the promise that this would be 'rushed through as top priority' and it ended up taking longer than the first time I ordered them. In Canada and other countries you can get lenses cut and glasses made in under an hour. Specsavers deliver them in over a week. While the selection of frames is good and the quality of the lenses is excellent value for money. I'd advise you to get your test done elsewhere, and visit a different Specsavers branch if you're intent on purchasing glasses from there.
