Take your money out of this bank! Put it somewhere else! Barclays is currently the bank providing the largest sums of money to finance fossil fuels in Europe and has increased its investment in fossil fuel expansion, fracking, coal, arctic and offshore oil and gas, and tar sands since 2015. Barclays is the biggest global player in the high stakes game of financing catastrophic climate change. Over the past three years, theyve put more than $85 billion into oil, coal and gas projects. We need to keep global temperature rises below 1.5C, but Barclays are driving us over the edge. Barclays also fund projects that contribute to forest destruction. The relentless funding by Barclays of commodities like palm oil, soya and beef is destroying ecosystems across the world. Destroying forests damages the worlds chances of beating climate change, and is linked to human rights violations for example against Indigenous Peoples who rely on those ecosystems to survive. The damage done to forests by the activities of major agribusiness firms and the banks that fund them was made clear in August 2019 when images of the Amazon in flames spread around the world. These fires were largely started to clear land for crops and cattle, to meet the demand from food companies around the world for cheaper meat and dairy products. Barclays is the biggest funder of fossil fuel infrastructure in Europe - it's time to take your money out completely from this bank to prevent their destructive investments.
