Excellent station. London may have the purple trains, but only Bournville has the purple station.

Great station, with lovely smells of chocolate drifting through the air. So why, you ask, only 2 stars? On the approach to the station from the Stirchley direction, you see the sign in my photo. This sign is very confusing, to the point of being just plain misinformation. It reads "platform 2 over road bridge". The problem is, platform 2 is NOT over the road bridge as you come from Stirchley. It's on YOUR side. I've attached the sign which is on the Bournville side, which says EXACTLY the same thing. So one of these signs is very misleading. You do not need to go on the road bridge to catch a train on platform 2 if you approach from Stirchley. Someone needs to fix these. Obviously if you are local you know what you're doing like muscle memory and stopped reading the signs long ago. But many refugees, international students, tourists, and others who have English as a second or third language come and visit here regularly. So you can imagine this sign would confuse someone quite easily. Someone needs to change it.

So grateful that this train station is often staffed. Yesterday I caught the train from New Street to Bournville, just as I was exiting the train station, I realised I had left my treasured Winter coat in the luggage rack. Panicked I went straight to the ticket office. The gentleman on duty could not have been more helpful, he straight away located the train on his computer system and managed to get in touch with staff on the train, who managed to quickly locate my coat. He then arranged for them to drop my coat back to me on their return journey from Bromsgrove. I am beyond grateful for the kind assistance of the gentleman working at Bournville ticket office as well as the very kind assistance from his colleague who was Guard on the train. Awesome, friendly service and I got my Winter coat back. Thank you so much!! :-) xx
