2022 I can't believe it's five years since Mr Rai's last prescription, but the varifocal spectacles and sunglasses have done me proud for all that time. Now time for a change. This time I chose a pair of Supalite titanium spectacles, and very smart they are too. It's worth mentioning that everyone comments that Mr Rai's prices are highly competitive; but more than that, the service is first class, from having a thorough initial eye test, through to selecting spectacles (overseen by the tasteful and exacting scrutiny Mrs Rai) to the final fitting. Hamstead Eyecare is all on one level, and is therefore suitable for people of reduced mobility, or even wheelchair users, as I can testify. If you want a seamless service with fair, even inexpensive prices, consider Hamstead Eyecare. There's no competition. Even the local competitor a few doors down cannot compete with service and prices. We should value local, independent family firms more - use them or lose them! 2017 A first-class service from start to end, and - even better - this a family business with an excellent reputation, local to Handsworth, Handsworth Wood, Great Barr and Walsall. I've never been so pleased with my specs before. I had two pairs of varifocals made up for HALF the cost quoted by Boots. I took the optician's advice and had lenses in my prescription sunglasses which improved peripheral vision above and beyond my previous prescription. But cost was not the only factor: no optician has ever shown such interest, care and professionalism in measuring me up and fitting my spectacles as Mr Rai and his wife. A very good experience all round. I'll not use anyone else in the future, and shall be recommending them to everyone I know. August 2019 Just back from Mr Rai's Hamstead Eyecare, having picked up my gorgeous new spectacles. It is lovely to have such a superb local service right on your doorstep. Mr Rai genuinely cares about his customers, remembering important little details about them and their families. It was great to catch up too on the Rai family news - son awaiting news of his GCSEs, elder daughter is now at King Edward's Handsworth, and the little one is a character! A lovely local family business run by a lovely local family. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr Karen O'Rourke

Very disappointed with the service here for my grandmother. The optician told her that she was getting old and her deterioriation in her eyesight was perfectly normal and that she should instead watch the TV. If the optician had called her in for a check up, he would have noticed that she had cataracs. Instead, we had to wait 5 hours in A&E because the optician here didn't want to see her. If we had to wait any longer the situation would have been much worse and a more powerful laser being used for the operation. Hopefully they will show more care and be mindful of the language they use to others in the elderly community. Nobody should have to settle for poor eyesight.
