Terrible Hospital! Don't risk your loved ones ! From 10.30 am till 14.50 we waited and every hour we asked for Doctor, their reply was "I'm sorry, your still going to have to wait...." How long ? "I'm sorry, we don't know yet!" Absolutely RIDICULOUS! PAYING TAXES FOR THIS HUH 22 WEEKS PREGNANT, HANDS AND FEET Swollen, IN CONSTANT PAIN AND NO DOCTOR TO SEE HER OR ANY HOPE OF BEING SEEN ANYTIME SOON. SHAME ON YOUR DEGREES! ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS MONEY! SHAME ON YOU! THE LOT OF YOU! NOW GOING TO A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL

I gave birth at this hospital alone without my birth partner and without painkillers for the large majority of my labour not due to the pandemic but due to racism . My symptoms were ignored and the midwife assigned to ward 1 (D1) on the morning of 30th December 2020 was racist because she showed preferential treatment to the white patients on the ward. When I told her I was experiencing frequent contractions and other labour symptoms she ignored me and rolled her eyes at me whilst showing more care and concern for the white patients on the ward and even the white women on my ward noticed how she was treating me differently compared to them. I was refused entry to the birth center and wasn't even given an explanation as to why that was. I wasn't given gas and air or pethidine until the very end of labour and was instead told to go into the bathroom alone and flick water on myself to alleviate the pain I nearly gave birth in the hospital bath tub. The racism or unconscious bias of the staff in this hospital needs to be addressed and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a significant difference in how many ethnic minority women have had a negative experience or lost their babies or their lives at this hospital. I would complain to the PALs service however this service only seems to exist to help the hospital avoid being sued and to deny that patients are being maltreated (as stated in other reviews that I have seen) . Not all the white staff are racist some have been exceptional but some are and unfortunately for me I had a racist Midwife at the most critical stage of my pregnancy. I strongly recommend black, asian and mixed race women to covertly record how they are treated at this hospital because the racist attitude by some of the staff is shocking. I have read many other reviews about this hospital and it isn't surprising to see that a lot of the positve reviews come from white patients where as some ethnic minority women have lost their healthy babies or state that they were neglected and refused painkillers and their birth plans weren't adhered to. The actual number of how many ethnic minority women have lost their lives or babies at this hospital must be significant. I again urge ethnic minority women to record how they are treated to protect themselves and their babies and to go to the media if they have a negative experience. This isn't a safe place for ethnic minority women to have their babies have your wits about you especially if you decide to have your baby here.
