My Mum spent her final week here and I can not believe how bad an experience we have had. She was admitted into hospital very unkempt with fecal matter behind her fingernails after spending only 1 week there after a long hospital stay. No visits facilitated due to one excuse after another. No time for phone calls and the calls we did have, the staff were extremely rude and spoke about my Mum like a body in a bed. The list of complaints is endless. A week after her death I still have not received a phone call to discuss my concerns or to offer condolences. Absolutely disgusting and very upsetting treatment of a lovely lady.

After contracting Covid last Christmas both my 80 year old parents were in a bad way. My Dad who was the most ill and who also had been my Mams carer for many years was admitted to hospital while my Mam was admitted to West Lodge, initially for respite care until my Dad recovered. Id never been without my parents so it really was the worst time of my life but as the days went on things got easier thanks to each and every one of the kind, helpful and friendly staff at West Lodge. They even told me that they were there for me if I needed any help with Dad who ended up living with me after being discharged from hospital. One of the things I found hard was not being able to see my Mam due to the Covid Virus but I found this totally understandable as the staff were just trying to keep all the residents as safe as possible and exactly what Id expect from a care home. However they did understand that family were missing contact with their loved ones and had allocated a member of staff to do daily video calls from an ipad for all the residents which lifted everyones spirits at such a bad time. My Dad tried living at home but really couldnt manage so decided he would join Mam at West Lodge. This has done him the world of good and I can see such a positive change in him after being there for only a month. He has a lovely bright, warm room and he rings me after every meal to tell me how great the food is. Hes made lots of new friends and has even started a domino team. The staff really cant do enough to help the residents and the whole place has a lovely friendly vibe about it like everyones part of one big family but the main thing for me is knowing my parents are both safe and I can finally sleep at night. Thank you all at West Lodge x

Cannot fault this home, the quality of care provided witnessed cannot be reckoned with not only is the care fantastic but also the facilities such as meal times and activities for all the residents is up to the highest standard! I cannot thank the staff enough for how high and beyond these people for the care they provide!

Appearances can be deceptive and in west lodge's case this is so true, it's not until you have to go to another care home (hallgarth, durham) that you find out what caring really is

My dad was at West Lodge for 18 months before his dementia took real hold of him and he had to go to an emi registered home before he died, but I have to say that I couldnt have had him any where better. So much so that my mam is now resident at West lodge where she is very well looked after and has bounced back from some very serious illnesses which could of easily had a much different result if it wasnt for the staff within the home looking after her.
