Really disappointing. We approached this firm for our first mortgage, and received an initial email from them. Despite replying several times over several weeks, we still have yet to hear back from the gentleman in question, and have had to find an alternative broker. We need a responsive company to work with, and it feels like pulling teeth even getting an email back from them. EDIT: Not a wonderful response from Barr. It's worth noting that after our initial discussion, I had asked to follow up with a phone call the following week when I knew I would be available. No response, no call. It sounds as though they decided to try our phone in the following weeks while we have been at work - there was no message, and no emails, and bearing in mind all the previous discussions had been via email that was what we were expecting. Via email, they had asked us to put together various documents, including self-assessment details including the current year. Needless to say, these take time to put together. Asking for tax returns in October that wouldn't be usually calculated until January meant asking my accountant to step in and assist. Added to that, our circumstances changed - all explained in the emails. When we had everything we needed, we contacted Barr again, and received nothing in return - despite both of us trying separately from our own accounts. Perhaps when a company is trying to find a mortgage for a new client, they need to be proactive too and respond to emails, instead of being constantly pushed. It isn't like reviewing a builder for a quote - it's like reviewing a builder for offering a quote, and never replying when you say you're interested. It doesn't reflect on their work, but it does offer an insight into how responsive they would be. If responsiveness isn't something that concerns potential clients, then they are free to ignore this review.

Barr Financial helped my wife and I with our first mortgage and, later, two remortgages. They've always been very helpful, efficient and easy to communicate with. If you are wondering whether to use a mortgage broker, it's an absolute no-brainer, regardless of your circumstances. And you can trust Barr Financial to look after you.
