JB Architects completely transformed the tired, cold 1970s bungalow we bought into a chic, funky, beach house. This is our main home and JBAs designs combined the practicalities required for that with a large dose of liveable-in flair. I was particularly impressed by the effort he put in to reduce our heating bills and make the house as eco-friendly as possible.

JB Architects completed a large extension to a Victorian keepers cottage for my wife and me to live in retirement in 2016. The county planners required the extension to be sunk partially into the ground behind the existing cottage and the architects plans were most imaginative, allowing light to pour into the low extension from either side of the cottage. No small planning detail was omitted, and JB Architects were also responsible for project management and contract administration. These tasks were executed punctiliously, communicating daily by email with the building contractors and keeping close control of the contract budget. The final result continues to be most satisfactory, with high ceilings and really good light.

JBA have unlocked all kinds of difficulties that we were facing as we sought to redevelop redundant agricultural engineering premises in our conservation area culminating in a beautiful new build which is a statement of excellence at the southern entrance to the village. Brilliant design Hugh Owner Redevelopment of Reading Room & The Works plus 2x new houses in Bishops Tawton North Devon 2020.

We undertook a full refurb of a 250-year old farmhouse, including going up into the loft and creating an extension, which was given huge wow factor by James with a curved wall and hovering bay window, and full length sliding doors onto an elegant courtyard. It was a complex, lengthy and stressful project but James kept everyone focused and never lost sight of the fact we were looking for both a family home and a visually stunning new/old space.
