So I've passed the St Cuthbert's Church, the Cross, and Castle many times whilst at work. Finally, I've managed to do the tourist bit and explore the fascinating history here. I was pleasantly surprised to find the museum to answer all my what, when, and why's. The museum is free to visit and does accept donations. Although small the museum is very well presented and super informative. It's such a fascinating history. Do take the time to explore the wonderful headstones within the churchyard, too. I was not aware of any facilities available at this location. Such a beautiful and very remote location, not for visiting in poor weather, that's for sure. Walking through the main gate with the church in front of you, the Bewcastle Cross is located to the right, with the museum beyond. It's a short walk around the neighbouring farm to a public footpath for access to the castle. It's easy to see with the views from the ground why this was such a good vantage point across the surrounding landscape.

Unmissable. Start with this museum which is in the graveyard of the church in the far corner, there is wheelchair access. Plenty of information plaques in there to explain the local area. Move onto the Standing Stone and finally don't miss the castle built on the Roman Fort

Excellent, 1st class! Only Hexagonal Roman fort in Britain, overlaid By Medieval Castle and Church, with free Museum! Border reaver graves in churchyard, go after dark to witness the ghosts, Five Stars.
