Typically my holidays are all about adventure, whether scuba diving in the Maldives or hiking in Peru. This time I knew I needed a rest but didn't want to spend a week playing on my phone by the pool. Instead I wanted to go somewhere where I could re-set, be quiet and peaceful and do something positive, something useful, something for me. Hence I began looking into detox retreats. Having put on 10 kilos during lock down and struggling with a few food intolerances, I knew a fast would help me but given I'd be travelling on my own to a retreat and having never done a detox before it was important that the culture and mindset of the approach was a good fit. I needed to feel comfortable with the people running the retreat and with how they approachedand organised it. Trust was really important. Having done a fair bit of research online, looking at retreats in the UK and abroad, the options seemed to be mostly polar opposites in terms of type of retreat. At one end of the scale, the boot camp style fit farms, and at the other end the rather more spiritual options. I wanted something more down to earth and practical. I selected Sura Detox for two key reasons. Firstly because of the impeccable record on Google Reviews - 57 5 star reviews which is no small feat. Secondly because of the overarching approach, relaxed and informal with a focus on nutrition. During the retreat I learnt a great deal. The DIY colonics weren't as dreadful as I had anticipated, having never done a colonic before, and the spa treatments were an added bonus. I only lost 3 kilos during the week but I came away with far more energy, physically and emotionally. I've given an overall 5 star rating because I trulybelieve the retreat was run very well. The only downsides, things that I would be conscious of for a next detox booking but may not bother others, were the lack of volume of juice at the designated intervals each day and no juice variety to choose from. Big thanks to the Sura Detox team, it was an invaluable experience! As an aside, the quality of the venue itself was a real shame, of course to no fault of the Sura Detox team. Smythen Farm Cottages are set on a hill overlooking the sea, beautiful views and it's lovely and peaceful but the cottages and communal spaces are very run down. I will leave a seperate review of the venue on Google but needless to say that when you're fasting, comfort becomes very important.

This is the third time I have treated myself to the experience at Sura Detox and each fast has been greatly beneficial, to mind and body. Increased energy, more focus on what's important to me, great skin and less weight. I don't use the word "transformational" lightly, but, over the years, I have developed much healthier eating habits and a positive approach to my body. I have learned a huge amount. Making the week long fast sustainable when you leave the bubble of Smythen Farm and return to real life is down to the deep level of support from Dao and the team. I cannot praise or thank them enough. You do have to work hard yourself to get the most out of this. If you are willing to do that, I would highly recommend.

Excellent experience. I've always been interested in intermittent fasting and finally decided to commit to a full week at Sura Detox. The hosts of the retreat are knowledgable, friendly and understanding. They've been doing this for years and really know their stuff. I did a lot of research and found that Sura was the best fit for the experience I was looking for. You spend your days doing things like Tai Chi and Yoga, listening to nutrition talks, swimming, walking on the beach and not eating. It's an excellent exercise for the body and mind. Well worth the money and something I will likely do every year. I recommend getting your own room if your budget allows.

I got so much out of my experience with Sura detox. I came with gut issues and I noticed my bowel movements drastically improve after I left. The team create the best environment possible for you, they are incredibly kind and caring. I felt recharged and reset after the retreat.

Just come back from a water fast detox at this place. I initially went for the fast but came away with a wealth of knowledge about diet and food which I never had before. My mind was blown about the fact that I had actually been eating the wrong foods my whole life. Dao has taught me what I should be putting into my body instead of searching and getting contradictory answers about what is good or not. The 7 day fast itself is actually very hard but you realise why you need to do it in life to flush out the lifetime of toxic gunk from your body after consuming the wrong stuff all your life. To be honest this is retreat is the only thing that has actually helped and make me feel good for once. Its definitely worth the investment because there are tools and information you take away from this that will set you in the right direction for the rest of your life. You will never ever look at food the same way again. Kevin.
