They called me into their office in front of everyone saying they were 'concerned'. When I asked what the problem was they said 'you shouldn't be bottle feeding your child' I pointed out that because my son was premature and had a hospital stay plus chronic reflux that I couldn't bf. Their response was 'no, you shouldn't have him on your lap when you feed him, he needs to be independent'. He was 1, do you really think a 1 year old needs to be independent? Our job as mothers is to nurture our children. So I didn't go back after that humiliation and they proceeded to call me, telling me I should go back as its 'good for my child'. My response was that there were plenty of other places I could go where I wouldn't be mum shamed for loving my child. A few days later I got a visit from social services! They actually reported me for 'feeding my child in a way to benefit myself and not the child'. If they knew anything about modern parenting, they would understand the importance of a secure attachment. When you hold your child whilst feeding it releases oxytocin which helps brain development and they can grow up secure, happy and yes, independent. They are 60 years behind and would try to take loving parent's children taken away from them because they don't agree with how you parent.
