Lack of home comforts, photos are nothing like the reality, no view in back garden, fence falling down, tree that is at least 10 years old that doesnt appear in the photos of garden, everywhere not maintained and overgrown shrubbery to front and back. all poorly maintained, very cheap and uncomfortable sofa. Damp smell in bedroom 2, drain smell in kitchen, uneven flooring in kitchen, we had to clean the fridge out before using! Didnt bother with the food cupboard as it had stains and crumbs inside.

It could be a lovely holiday cottage if the owners took slightly more care than they do. When we arrived we were able to just about park outside, I wasnt impressed that they hadnt cut the bushes back and my new car was going to be scratched if we werent careful. Upon entering the property we felt it smell musty and there was no air freshener anywhere - we thought the cottage was nice and if it was lifted with more up to date furniture etc it could be exceptional. It is equipped with everything you need, but its just so old fashioned. There is a coal fire, we had plenty of coal but nothing to start it or keep it going with so we had to buy kindling and logs. There are house rules which say the dog is to sleep in the kitchen - this wasnt mentioned when we booked the cottage so wasnt happening. Plus when it rained the kitchen became damp and smelled damp and we found a slug climbing up the wall one night! We knew it was near the railway but it is so close that the cottage vibrates - now that doesnt worry us but it could some people so be warned. The bedrooms are nice enough and there are blankets on the duvet and plug in fires should you need them - and need them you would in winter! The only radiator that worked was the lounge! We did leave a note for the owners though as to the damp and the slugs so its up to them but if they bought it up to a better standard we would go back as its the ideal base for touring.
