A fantastic day with David on the beginners photography course. David had infinite patience, (didnt even bat an eyelid when i spilled my glass of coke at lunch narrowly missing his lap top) and I learned lots of tips/ideas about using Manual mode, editing and picture composition . Thoroughly enjoyable day and great value.

I had a great day with David in Malham and around the Dales. He took us through everything from the very basics all the way to being able to manually operate my camera properly. Everything was explained clearly and concisely. Having David transport us around the various locations visited was very helpful. He had all the accessories you might need as well so you didn't need to buy anything special for the day. All in all, a great day and I will look to book a more advanced course in the future.

I've been "into photography" ever since asking for a camera at the age of 12, more than 45 years ago. Clearly I've changed my camera and lenses quite a few times over those 4-5 decades and taken literally tens of thousands of photographs. Despite all of this, and now owning a mirrorless camera with a few lenses, I chose to go on the very basic Photography course with David. And it was absolutely the right decision. I already had some understanding of the theory of the interplay of aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and the impact on depth of field but he explained this very clearly with the aid of diagrams, and he sent us his notes afterwards. What he also did was explain to me the benefits of manual mode and manual focus, fixed and auto ISO. He explained when to use aperture and shutter priority and the different auto focus methods of my camera. What settings to pair with which mode. Not only did he explain all of this in clear terms, he showed me all of this on my camera. I had some understanding of the theory before the day, but never really put it in to practice - I was comfortable using what I knew and got "ok results", so why change. This is the real benefit of this course - putting the theory into practice. David is absolutely dedicated to personalising this to you and your camera. I have a popular camera of the same brand as him, so navigating the menus was easy for him. However, he had much less of an idea about one of the other participant's camera. He was committed enough to go on YouTube to learn its menus so that he could do exactly the same for him. At no time did he make us feel stupid for not knowing our own cameras - his style was relaxed and helpful. The locations were good to give us a variety of settings to try different techniques so I came away inspired to practice what he taught me, and I already have had the confidence to do this. If you want someone who is dedicated to getting you to know your camera inside out so that you can make the most of it, and who has a friendly open manner that gives you the confidence to move forward, then I highly recommend this basic course. I would have liked just a little bit on composition, but I appreciate this course wasn't really aimed at this. That's my next one!
