Nice coffee and food, not sure why the 10% service charge is applied to the final bill, after all it's just a mill in Batley, not St Mark's Square Venice.

Ordered a scone which was stale it was hard and dry and had been warmed up. On display were lovely big fluffy looking scones unlike the one delivered. At 4.50 I expected a soft fluffy scone. There was only enough clotted cream for one half of the scone.

I dont know where to start really, the head waiter is certainly lacking in any kind of welcoming attitude. Grumpy frankly. The service was slow, tea pots and cups were dirty. I went for the pulled pork option which was probably the worst pulled pork sandwich available anywhere. I would strongly suggest it was a ping and ting option. When delivered the pork was warm at best, tough, bland and in just a large dollop in the centre of a soft roll and salad. However the entire plate including salad, roll and french fries was swimming in watery juices probably from the reheated pork having come straight from the fridge to water ever vessel was used to reheat it. Resulting in some of those juices running from the roll down my arm and back on to the plate via my sleeve. My partners chicken flat bread option looked fine I guess however, her french fries side dish was again clearly a reheat as had various different coloured fries along with a huge potato wedge. Mmmmm crispiest reheats Ive ever tried and a bargain at 4 a throw! Wonderful venue at Redbrick Mills but wont be back to that restaurant again. The only reason I have put one star is that I cant post without doing so. Five stars for Redbrick but none for Hide away cafe. Dont go

Very disappointing experience!! I don't usually leave bad reviews but I was actually shocked at the experience we had, even more shocked seeing they have 4stars!! Having been to the other cafes in red brick I thought I'd take my Dad to this one. Dirty, bad food, bad drinks, expensive & tip added without a bill!! We sat down and the first thing I noticed was the sticky table...fine we were just excited for breakfast together and very hungry! The tea pot was splattered with grease/water marks and the cappuccino was very poor, tasteless and just foamy. My Dad didn't even finish his tea, he said it was as weak as dishwater (he's a war time baby who doesn't leave a thing!). The food came and at first look I thought it looked good. Unfortunately the taste wasn't there at all. I had the sweetcorn and halloumi fritters and paid extra for bacon. The fritters weren't cooked or crispy, still undone inside. The eggs were watery and the avocado had black bits. Not to mention the avocado pip LEFT in. I bit on this and luckily didn't crack a tooth! My father had sourdough with mushroom, eggs and truffle. His bread was soggy and wet, the portion was poor for 12.50 with only one slice of bread and he said it was all quite bland. My breakfast was 15 and funnily enough I had sweetcorn fritters the week prior with halloumi, spicy beans, eggs and avocado for 8.50 which was delicious. I chose not to say anything during the visit because it was my dad's idea/treat and I didn't want to ruin the moment for him. I was hoping he enjoyed his at least. Also, neither of us had eaten and it was 11-12noon. l had hoped he at least enjoyed his. The male waiter was pleasant, he did his job, however the woman behind the counter making coffees and serving was unfriendly and rude. She didn't ask or say anything ab or it the visit just quoted c.36 but didn't provide a bill. We paid but then I asked for an itemised bill as it didn't make sense. They had added a 3.60 tip!!!! I like to tip and make a point of it, but I was annoyed enough at paying for the poor food, but a tip for breakfast at a cafe inside a shop when not one part of the process was up to standard, was infuriating. We paid just under 37 for 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks. I'm still shocked that a weak cup of tea is 3?! Or a crossiant 4.40/60?! But to self tip, without providing a bill for the customer to see this is so cheeky. I'd never go back. A real example of being duped by a good looking menu.
