on leaving i over heard feedback from someone who had been there from 7:30 he could have gave instructions which would have been helpful anyways.
he said public facing great but very phonetic. meaning on my phone in his words.
as a security manager for a secure organisation
my opinion if you stick a security officer on reception with no instructions no info on the day going ahead they are going to sit on there phone. as the other security said all you have to do is sit here, the shift was 10 hours better to be on my phone reading than on reception sleeping.
the guy that referred to me on the phone could have easily said could you do x y and z, as i was filling in as a front of house receptionist in my opinion
i had to use my initiative and be helpful and address the public with no knowledge, public was appreciative considering i dint have a clue, but i winged it you would have thought i was regular staff
security rocked up at 9:50am and said he did not even know this was going on today therefore communication is very poor
considering the guy who gave feedback was watching my performance i guess he didnt notice that the regular security sat at the security desk on and did absolutely nothing, accept look on the computer at what he wanted to the whole shift, but i wasnt fussed because the 3 hours it was very busy helped pass the time i was greatful for this.
im a very active person, being told to sit there and do nothing is very painful, im never happy to get paid for sitting and doing nothing some like it but i did'nt get to security manager by sitting and doing nothing with no role purpose.
engaging with the public and students made the later part of the day go very quick
the university itself is great i had a little look around, i always wanted to go to uni but on paper i dont qualify to get into university. which is a shame for the kind of people that are great physically and will do great at subjects they are interested in.

This is where I'm a student. Locksbrook was opened 18 months ago, just in time to catch the pandemic. It's inside the grade 2 listed old Herman Miller factory. Inside the building has been fitted out with studios, workshops and shared spaces. The studios are light and airy, the workshops equipped with up to date equipment in the main. There's a cafe, a shop, but no library onsite which is a pain. (Library has moved to Newton park campus). It's difficult to comment on social side since at the time of writing Covid has wiped that out. Having started a five, I've reduced it to four stars. Locksbrook is small and as a result of the pandemic, workshop access is limited. It's still pretty and possibly you'll get seduced by Bath; but think carefully.
