This museum has the largest collection of east and southeast Asian art outside London. And, indeed, there's much to impress on the three storeys of this Bath townhouse just around the corner from The Circus. I've learned about the creation of laquerwork and the value of jade and the difficulties of firing ceramics in more than one colour. But more than that, their present exhibition showcases the woodblock paintings of an artist whose work is new to me: Lu Xun. Wish I could show you examples, but the glass covers makes photography difficult.

Small but full of interesting pieces, the porcelain collection rivalled that of the British Museum - it exceeded my expectations.

A lovely museum with incredible exhibits; however, my experience was interrupted by a member of staff who insisted I come out of the top floor gallery so she could give myself and two others a tour of the same room we were already in. A tour I had not asked for and made clear by body language that I wasn't interested in. She then proceeded to talk through artwork I had just looked at and recounting facts I had just read. I felt annoyed and patronised. The time I had left to my own devices was much more enjoyable and the collection is great. Just a shame about the time wasted.
