Our volunteer guide (Vince, an active mason in one of the lodges that meets in the premises) gave us an expert tour of a building that has had three lives - firstly as a theatre in the raucous glory days of Regency Bath; then as the headquarters of Roman Catholic mission in the South West of England in the 19th Century, when the region had only a tiny Catholic population; finally as Bath's main masonic hall and one of the grander masonic premises I have been in. I learned much about Regency Bath (which I know a little about), and about freemasonry (which I know somewhat more about), and even about church history (and I have a Master's degree in church history). Vince painted a warm and intimate portrait of a fascinating building. My companion and I enjoyed ourselves more than we expected. It was a perfect place to visit on a very rainy day in Bath.

Visited it today. It was very interesting and the guide was full of knowledge about the lodge of course but also about the town and the building history. Highly recommend !
