This is our second stay at this park, and due to school holidays changing, unfortunately, we had to change our accommodation from a lakeside lodge to The Croft cottage, and we found this had an impact on the overall enjoyment of our holiday. First off, on arrival, we found the cottage to be completely off the park, and is very poorly signposted, and we ended up going down residential drive. As per the website, The Croft is said to be next to an active farm, so we at least expected to see farm animals of some sort, but instead, we were met with a derelict building, where people in vans kept coming and going with furniture, there was an eyesore of junk out the front and out the back, and, an inactive farm that looked like it was falling apart. For over 1000 a stay, this is not what we expected at all. On entering the property it seemed to be clean, but on closer inspection we saw that the place had a lot of cobwebs. We appreciate that there are spiders in these places, but the duster needed to be taken around. It was good there was TV's in each room, but the sofa's were terribly uncomfortable, and the log burner was full of half burned logs that hadn't been cleaned out. There were not enough matches provided either. The kitchen seemed to have all equipment that was needed, but the washing machine didn't work, so unfortunately, we couldn't wash anything. The bedrooms were large and airy, but the mattresses and pillows were very hard, and not pleasant to sleep on. We were happy to have a hot tub, but this didn't have any temperature setting, so we were only able to use it at that set temperature. Only two of the jets worked, too. Really, that hot tub looked very tired. Also, there is no privacy from Dower House. A window looks directly on to the hot tub, and there are big gaps in the fence where people might look, which isn't what one wants when trying to relax in the tub, or wanting a quiet coffee outside. In the main master bedroom, the blinds were thin, and needed upgrading as all night every night the security light went on and off, sometimes flickering, having an impact on how we slept. The shower in the master bedroom was hot and cold, every time we used it, not giving us a pleasant showering experience. Overall, Bassenthwaite lake is amazing, our favourite part of the lakes, and there are some stunning views, especially with Skiddaw and Dodd Wood on your doorstep, but unfortunately, this cottage wasn't up to standards.
