Great cottage in a lovely village. Couldnt fault it, it has everything you need and more. Owners extremely helpful and informative of the area. Highly recommend staying here, we will definitely be back. The Sun Inn around the corner is totally dog friendly and the food is fantastic, best to book as it does get busy. Pleasant walks around the village with the dog to kick start your day exploring, we loved the puddle ducks. Both Keswick and Cockermouth within easy drives for shopping.

We have just returned home from spending 5 days in this wonderful cottage. I cannot speak more highly of what is on offer. Lovely cosy cottage with extremely helpful owner who couldn't have done more for us. Such lovely little touches provided. About a minutes walk if that from the gorgeous local pub with such friendly people and delicious food. Pretty local walks especially if you walk the one to Bassenthwaite Lake directly from the Cottage, stunning scenery and the dogs could swim too....perfect. Very short car journey to Cockermouth or Keswick if you need anything. But we loved being tucked away in a cute friendly village where the chickens and ducks are there to great you in the morning. Loads of walks on the doorstep but would also recommend Grassmere and Rydal Waters for walking a little further afield. Thank you again and we will definitely return in the future.

Rivendell Cottage is an extremely well equipped, well-located and welcoming cottage. The beds are some of the most comfortable I've experienced (and I've stayed in a lot of holiday lets). The living accommodation is spacious and caters for all needs. Even if it had rained all week there's plenty to keep one occupied. But the weather was glorious so no need to be cooped up indoors all day. Bassenthwaite village is very quiet. The Sun Inn is welcoming (even after we won the quiz night!) with good beer but average food. Try the Ravenstone Manor for a better gastronomic experience, or, if it's night life you're after, head to Keswick. The area around Bassenthwaite is so peaceful and there's some fantastic walking even if you're not up to Skiddaw these days (like me). And you'll barely meet a soul - unlike in the central Lakes. Just a note of caution. If walking in the Over Water area, beware of dive-bombing Buzzards!

Beautiful deceptively large cottage in the quiet village of Bassenthwaite. Despite the very wet weather we did get down to Keswick and manage a walk up to Dash Falls. Lovely to come home and throw a few logs on the fire to warm the place up for cosy nights in, or a stone throw from the very hospitable Sun Inn. We will have to return again next year, hopefully with better weather and the opportunity to explore further. Thanks Mandy for the warm welcome and amazing bag of Goodies!

We had a lovely half term break with our teenage girls. Despite the dreadful weather (torential rain the whole time) we managed to get out to climb Latrigg and walk a trail in Dodd Wood. Mandy and Tim has thought of everything. The house was very well equipped and we were very grateful of the log burner, washing facilities & drying room and the board games. The location of the cottage is in a lovely village with a fantastic village pub (the sun inn) with great food - we didn't venture far to eat out either - and it is ideally located for many walks and easy access to Keswick and Derwentwater. Thank you Mandy & Tim.
