This was supposed to be a relaxing spa day as a belated mother's day gift. The main pool was being refitted so in a very tired small pool. The beds for relaxing were pushed against wall, couldn't face pool as there wasn't room. We lay for about five minutes, felt very cold, it was really dingy. Moved to relaxation room, which was laid out well apart from the heavy door that slammed every time someone went in or out, which was often. Must have been on a spring hinge. As we started to relax, there was intermittent drilling and banging from the pool across corridor that is being updated. There was a radio playing nearby so you had relaxing music and radio music at same time. Put it all together there is nothing relaxing about it! The massage was fantastic, can't complain about that. We decided to get dressed and have our cream tea early. Staff were lovely, but the cream tea wasn't really what we had hoped for, especially the one very small jar of marmalade with the scones and clotted cream! Had to wander about to find a member of staff to request jam. We arrived just after ten and were gone by two. This place has the potential to be lovely if money spent on it. My daughter felt really bad that her treat for us both wasn't what she paid for. We did try to see the funny side of it but really you should not be selling Spa breaks with all this going on it's not fair on people when money is so tight. I don't often review things but I felt I should so others know what to expect. We didn't complain at time because I didn't want to upset my daughter, also there was nothing staff could do, they were trying their best.
