Excellent local company, reconditioned the starter motor off my vw camper. From virtually not turning over to starting on the button instantly! Certainly not expensive either!

Excellent service. Phoned up to ask if they could help me with a strange battery issue which turned out to be my alternator. They got me in straight away the next day and was back on the road in no time. Alternator fixed and quality parts installed. Lovely people to deal with I would reccomend them to everyone.

After a fault being diagnosed with my alternator I took it to Alter Start to be serviced. I was charged 90. For those not familiar with this line of work, 90 is approximately two thirds/full price of a new alternator (depending on the make). In the mind set of supporting local companies and repairing rather than buying new I thought Id bite the bullet and save a couple of quid. After refitting the alternator, no more than one month later I had the dreaded battery light on the dashboard reappear. I took out the alternator once again and took it back to Alter Start who had carried out an inspection. They informed me that they were unable to obtain the part required to fix my alternator and my only option was to buy a brand new one which at this time (mid covid crisis) was to cost 160. Im left with a very bitter taste in my mouth and cant help thinking that a professional that deals with servicing these units on a day to day basis would be well aware of components that are going to fail imminently as well as ones that already have. Should this not be included as part of a professional servicing? OR are they fully aware thats that when it dies again days after the service they will be cashing in on a service which they advertise as having a twelve month warranty. I was offered no discount on a new alternator or even an apology throughout the whole scenario. To put simply, if you value your money and are looking for a garage you can trust i would advise looking else where.
