I work for myself. I post parcels on an almost daily basis and they are large. They normally are sent via Parcelforce 48. I normally use Cudworth Barnsley Post office branch where credit where it is due, the staff are lovely and so helpful and professional. Cudworth close at 1.30pm on a friday. On 18th April 2020 (a Friday) I had to drive round looking for a post office that was open as a parcel had to go urgently. I ended up at New Lodge. I walked in after queuing for 10-15 mins to be told "that's too large, it will have to go via Parcelforce but they aren't collecting from here and having been collecting or delivering for at least a week". I told them that was funny as I had sent a Parcelforce parcel the day before from Cudworth and that this was the first I had heard. She said they had a message on their system that week saying Parcelforce were suspending their service". I told them that was really, really strange. She then said "well, you can leave it here if you really want to, but it won't get picked up until Monday afternoon now". (This highlighted the fact it was a lie.) I chose not to send it with them, and drove to another Post Office the next morning to send it with no issue. They hadn't heard about Parcelforce suspending their service either. They said Royal Mail could pick up Parcelforce 48 packages anyway to get them into the network, and they most likely didn't want the hassle of taking a big parcel. I then checked the Parcelforce website. It said that express 24 services were temporarily on hold, but 48 were running as normal but may take a little longer to reach their destination. Fast forward to Friday 25th April 2020. I needed a parcel to go urgently via 48. I went back to New Lodge. As soon as i walked in the door I was told I couldn't send a parcel of that size as they "didn't have the room behind the counter and had to think about health and safety". Behind the counter didnt look overwhelmingly full. They also had an empty room with a glass counter beside them. She said that was a "sanctuary for pickup" and she wouldn't put it in there either. I asked why it was a Post Office if it was picking and choosing which items could be sent via their branch. I then raised the fact I was lied to on 18th April about Parcelforce not collecting from their branch when it was obvious it was just the same issue. The woman was really rude raising her voice when she had been caught out and it was very clear that she just wanted to argue. I asked if who the manager was as I wasn't happy with how she was being. She said she was. I then noted it was a franchise and asked for the name of the owner, she said she was too. She said it wasn't being sent via their office and that was it. The woman's name was Donna. The woman who was actually serving me had blonde hair and was backing her up. She was quite rude too. I do not like to argue, especially in public. The people outside the Post Office waiting to come in were peering around the door. I had to send other smaller items via normal 2nd class, and now am actually worried that they will have been sent at all. I am incredibly annoyed. I felt totally humiliated as I was having to leave with the parcel. I couldn't find another post office that day and I am now waiting on what the customer will have to say. The parcel weighed 3.4kgs, the box was just under a metre in length. It was 45cms wide. I'm failing to see how they can offer Post Office/Royal Mail/Parcelforce services if they turn down business and lie their way out of situations. There is no way will I ever visit New Lodge again and I will be telling friends to stay away too. If that is how the owner feels able to act, I can only imagine how her staff will feel able to act too. So, the moral of the story is stay away and choose another place to take your business. Use Cudworth Post Office instead! New Lodge feel able to turn people away if they feel like it, and the owner is quite possibly the rudest person I have encountered yet. I would give them 0 stars if I could.

Walked in with a parcel that needed to go via parcel force. It was quite large, but well within the parcel force limits and well within the bounds of what would be reasonably considered a normal parcel. The two staff members took one look at it and told me they wouldnt be able to take it. First they said it was too big to fit behind the counter, it wasnt too big at all. I pointed out this was a rubbish excuse, the reason then switched to health and safety, no specifics just the phrase health and safety. They simply watched me walk in with a parcel that was bigger and heavier than usual, and decided they didnt want to deal with it. The excuses were unbelievably laughable. Simply a display of pure laziness. I should have read previous reviews. I see Im not the only one thats had a similar problem at this post office.
